How your puppy reaches Uttarakhand

Roorkee, Haridwar, Dehradun and Rishikesh lie along the main road north from Delhi and are a comfortable day's delivery. Mussoorie is a short climb above Dehradun. On the Kumaon side, Rudrapur, Kashipur and Haldwani are reached through western Uttar Pradesh, and Nainital and Almora are hill drives beyond Haldwani.

In the monsoon, landslides can close hill roads for a day or two, so for Mussoorie, Nainital and Almora we fix the date with some flexibility. The puppy travels in the car with us, never in a crate in a hold.

Uttarakhand's weather and a curly coat

Dehradun sits in a valley with warm summers and a heavy monsoon, but it is far gentler than the plains. The hill towns, Mussoorie, Nainital and Almora, are cool most of the year, and a Poodle can keep a full coat there.

The plains towns, Haridwar, Roorkee, Rudrapur and Kashipur, get hot in May and June, so walk early and late there. Everywhere in the state, the monsoon means drying the dog properly after rain and checking the ears weekly.

Which breed suits Uttarakhand?

Dehradun is a lovely city for a Goldendoodle or a Standard Poodle, and the hill towns suit a Giant-type Standard with a full coat. A Toy Poodle is the easy choice for a flat in Haridwar or Haldwani.

Yes. The valley climate is milder than Delhi's, and the walks are better. Plan a shorter clip for the monsoon months and dry the coat properly after rain.
