How your puppy reaches Bihar

Bihar is a flight state for us. Someone from our family flies with the puppy into Patna, in the cabin where the airline allows it, and either hands over at the airport or drives on to your home. Hajipur, Arrah, Begusarai and Muzaffarpur are a road journey from Patna on the same day.

Gaya and Darbhanga both have airports, which shortens the trip for south and north Bihar: Gaya for Bodh Gaya and the south, Darbhanga for Mithila. Bhagalpur and Purnia in the east, and Chhapra, Siwan and Motihari towards the north-west, are longer road legs that we plan individually, so you know the route and the cost before anything is booked.

Nothing is booked until you have seen the mother, here in Delhi or on an unedited video call, and agreed the route and the price of the journey. No puppy travels before eight weeks of age. More on how this works on our delivery across India page.

Bihar's weather and a curly coat

Bihar's plains have hot summers, a strong monsoon from late June to September, and genuinely cold, foggy winters in December and January. The difficult months for a curly coat are the monsoon months: the air stays damp, and a thick, non-shedding coat holds that moisture against the skin, which leads to matting and ear infections.

From June to September keep a shorter clip, dry the dog completely after every wet walk, and check the ears every week. In winter, let the coat grow back; it is good insulation.

Our grooming guide covers clips and coat care for Indian weather in more detail.

Which breed suits Bihar?

For a flat in Patna, Gaya or Muzaffarpur, a Toy Poodle is the easiest dog to keep cool, clean and groomed through the monsoon. Families with space who want a bigger dog do well with a Goldendoodle; in a humid state we often suggest an F1 rather than an F1B, because the coat is a little looser and easier to dry. A Standard Poodle in a practical short clip is also a good fit.
