Raised in our home in Delhi NCR and delivered to Kolkata in person. Below is what Kolkata’s weather and housing actually mean for a curly-coated dog — written for this city, not copied from another one.
We are a small home breeding household in Delhi NCR. We breed three things and nothing else: Standard Poodles, Toy Poodles and Goldendoodles — including F1B golden doodle litters and Parti coats. Puppies are raised underfoot in our home rather than in runs, and we place them with families across India, Kolkata included.
We will be straight with you: Kolkata is one of the two hardest cities in India for a curly-coated dog, and we would rather tell you that before you buy than after.
The problem is not heat, it is humidity. Kolkata sits above 80% humidity for much of the year, and from April to June the heat and moisture together are genuinely punishing. A Poodle or Goldendoodle coat holds that moisture against the skin. Left alone it felts into mats within days, and damp ears are how ear infections start.
None of this makes a doodle a bad choice for Kolkata. It makes grooming non-negotiable. Keep the coat in a shorter clip through the summer and monsoon, dry the dog properly — down to the skin, not just the surface — after every wet walk, and brush three times a week rather than once. Owners who do that have perfectly comfortable dogs. December and January are lovely.
Kolkata's older buildings are a practical consideration people forget. A lot of flats in the central and north of the city are walk-ups without lifts, and a full-grown Standard Poodle at 25 to 30kg is not a dog you carry down three flights twice a day. If you are on an upper floor without a lift, we will genuinely suggest a Toy Poodle instead and tell you why.
Newer builds in Rajarhat, New Town and Salt Lake are a different picture and suit a Standard Poodle well. The Maidan and Rabindra Sarobar are where Kolkata owners walk in the cooler hours.
Kolkata is about a two-hour flight from Delhi. The puppy travels accompanied with someone from us, with updates the whole way, and we hand over in person with all documentation. We do not put puppies in cargo.
Whatever we have available genuinely exists and is listed on our available puppies page. If a litter is not on that page, we do not have it — we would rather tell you when one is due than take a deposit against a dog that is not born.
Vet health certificate, complete vaccination record and deworming history, and registration papers where the breed carries them.
In person in Delhi NCR, or on an unedited live video call if Kolkata makes a visit impractical. We will not place a puppy with someone who has not seen its mother.
Call us in two years and we will still pick up. Grooming, feeding, training, or just to send us a photo. That is the point of buying from a breeder.
Prices are published in full on our price guide, by tier and city. They do not change based on how keen you sound on the phone.
This applies whether you buy from us or from anyone else, and we mean it.
In person or on live video. A seller who will not show you the dam with the litter is hiding something. Watch how she is around people.
A Goldendoodle is a crossbreed and does not carry KCI registration. Anyone selling you KCI papers for one is selling you something that does not exist. More on this →
Both breeds need professional grooming every six to eight weeks for life. Find someone in Kolkata who can actually clip a Poodle coat before the puppy arrives, not after.
Pressure to pay today, or a puppy available immediately in any colour you name, are both warning signs. Good litters have waiting lists.
It is demanding, not impossible. Humidity above 80% for much of the year means a curly coat mats faster and ears need watching. Kept in a shorter summer clip, dried properly after wet walks and brushed three times a week, these dogs live very comfortably in Kolkata. If that grooming routine is not realistic for you, we will say so.
For coat management in humidity, a Standard Poodle is marginally easier because the coat is more uniform and predictable. Among Goldendoodles, an F1 is a little more forgiving than the curlier F1B. We will talk it through with you properly.
Yes, by accompanied air travel from Delhi NCR, roughly two hours. Handover is in person, with the vaccination card, vet health certificate and papers.
A Toy Poodle, honestly. A grown Standard Poodle or Goldendoodle weighs 20 to 30kg and carrying that up and down stairs several times a day stops being charming very quickly. We would rather place the right size dog with you than the biggest one.
